The best known ale is Landlord, a pale bitter, 4.3% abv when cask conditioned, and 4.1% when sold filtered in the bottle. It was created for miners, to compete against local rival Barnsley Bitter.[1] Landlord was four times Champion Beer of Britain at the 'Great British Beer Festival'.[2][3] The brand attracted media attention when Madonna said in an interview with Jonathan Ross that it was her favourite beer.[4][5]
Landlord is available in the brewery's own tied pubs, and is sometimes available as a guest ale in other pubs.
A variety of ales may be found in Taylor's houses, such as Golden Best, Dark Mild, Best Bitter, and Ram Tam. In the past Taylor's produced another bottled ale called Northerner, bearing the advertising slogan, For Men of the North.
